Pholoso Masombuka, best known as Toss, is a budding South-born African musician. He is one of the hitmakers of the song uMlando, which created a dance challenge with thousands of partakers.

The dance came with the new year after he shared a video of him dancing to a catchy hook. South Africans loved it and participated in the challenge.

Early Life and Education

Toss was born Pholoso Masombuka in Tsakane, South Africa. The 22-year-old liked kwaito and started to dance. People knew him for dancing in pantsula in Tsakane, East of Johannesburg.

After moving to the Vaal, the musician met other artists who introduced him to hip-hop music. He got the stage name Toss in a development team for Kaizer Chief.

Pholoso attended an art school but fell in love with music while studying drama.

Career

After graduating from high school, he planned to be a soccer player. Things started well for him after he played for the development program of the Kaizer Chiefs.

His visions as a player hit a dead end after he misbehaved and went home. The footballer-turned-rapper joined the music industry in 2014.

Eventually, he met with a music producer Mduduzi Memela, aka Mdoovar, who has helped his music career.

Later, he met the producer 9number, real name Letlotlo-la-bakuena Letlatsa, at JazziQ’s studio.

9number, Mdoovar, and Toss collaborated to produce the hit Umlando. The song gained massive airplay, and with the dance challenge, it exploded on the internet.

The trio says they will continue to produce hit songs together and as individual artists. uMlando is available on all digital platforms featuring Sino Msolo, Lady Du, Young Stunna, Sir Trill, and Slade. Toss first met Riky Rick in 2019.

Toss made a viral dance challenge that requires a daring site. The dancer goes shirtless before showing off the provocative hip thrust.

For him, the uMlando challenge is about having fun, twerking, and shaking that natural endowment. 

Many clapped at Toss for showcasing how flexible his hips are. For him, nothing is wrong with heterosexual men embracing the dance move seen as effeminate.

Celebrities also loved the dance, while some tried it out. Dineo Ranaka did the dance at the Metro FM studio. She climbed the office furniture and ushered her best moves.

The public broadcaster did not approve of it and placed her under suspension. The dance challenge continues on social media. He wants to try acting and talks with producers at SABC TV.

Toss is working on his 7-track Umlando EP.

Personal Life

Pholoso Masombuka played for his favorite soccer team, Kaizer Chiefs, development program. As a soccer lover, his fav soccer star is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Everybody loves and enjoys good food, and Masombuka’s favorite is iKota. The budding artist’s favorite musician is Cassper Nyovest. 

In a video, the musician was crying, which made fans worry. He mentioned to his fans that he needs love right now. He did not explain further but ended the live session.

In March 2022, Toss fainted on stage during a performance.
