Biography

Wafula Wakoli (born June 1983) is a South African politician and former teacher. He is the current senator-elect for Bungoma. The by-election made him succeed former Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula.

Early Life and Education

Wafula Wakoli was born in June 1983 and studied in primary and secondary school in Kenya. He attended St Peter Mumias Primary and studied at Musingu high school in Kakamega.

The politician obtained a Bachelor of Education at Egerton University.

Career

Wakoli worked as a Board of Management teacher at Bungoma High School and Baptist Secondary in Bungoma. In 2011, the Teachers Service Commission employed him. He worked at Friends Milima Secondary School in Tongaren until 2013.

After leaving secondary school, he joined politics. He worked as a manager and personal assistant to National assembly speaker Moses Wetangula. He occupied the position until September 2022.

In 2022, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission declared him senator-elect for Bungoma. The declaration followed a by-election from which he came out victorious.

The IEBC Returning officer Grace Rono declared Wafula Wakoli the winner. He won with 66,032 votes.

The former Kiswahili teacher taught at Milima Friends Secondary School. He served as the personal assistant to Moses Wetang’ula for over ten years.

Wafula is a member of the Ford Kenya party and was the party senatorial candidate for Bungoma on December 8, 2022. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission declared him as the senator-elect for Bungoma.
