Biography

Didmus Barasa is a Bungoma-born ex-military officer and Kenyan politician. He served his country in the military at Kenya Defense Forces technical wing.

Barasa currently serves as a member of parliament representing the Kimilili Constituency. After leaving Jubilee Party in 2021, he sought a better political journey in United Democratic Alliance.

The politician was a member of other political parties like the Amani Peace Coalition, the Jubilee Party, and UDF. 

During his tenure in the parliament, Didmus Barasa did not sponsor any bills.

Early Life

Didmus Wekesa Barasa was born in Bungoma County, a former Western Province of Kenya. He grew up under the care and tutelage of his parents. 

They valued education and registered him in schools around where they lived.

Education

In 1996, the political heavyweight joined Kimilili Secondary School. He obtained a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 2000. 

In 2001, he enrolled for a Bachelor of Science at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture. He graduated with a 2nd class Honors Upper Division in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2005.

From 2008 to 2009, Barasa studied for a Diploma in Security Systems Audit at the University of Sydney. 

Didmus holds a Master of Occupational, Health, Security and Safety Science from The University of Queensland, Australia.

Career

Didmus became an MP representing the Kimilili Constituency at the Kenya National Assembly in 2017. He served in the Kenya Armed Forces as a Private from 2007 to 2009.

Barasa held a management position at the Shell Company in Australia. He was the Regional qhse manager ea in charge of logistics. 

The Hon. was responsible for many countries – Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Congo. From 2009 to 2012, he was the corporate Q-hse manager at Shell Co. LTD, Australia.

In 2017, he joined the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security. He also serves as a Member of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Committee since 2017.

Scandal

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa appeared at Kimilili Court on Monday August 2, 2021. He faced charges of assaulting a contractor and musician and harming one Masinde Stephen at Lurare Baptist Primary School.

Didmus denied the allegation and was reportedly released on a Ksh 150,000 bond and a Ksh 100,000 bail.

Three years ago, the MP appeared on Standard Media after a businesswoman wanted him jailed. She claimed that he fraudulently obtained Sh2.6 million from her.

According to Janet Tombo, the owner of Blue Hippo Cleaning Services based at Madonna House in Westlands, she met the Didmus in 2015. He promised to help her secure a cleaning contract at Bollore Africa Logistics.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa appeared at a Bungoma court over the fatal shooting of his opponent Brian Khaemba’s aide.

The court ordered Kimilili MP-elect Didmus Barasa to surrender his firearms and stay away from Bungoma county pending investigations.

On Wednesday, August 24, the MP-elect was released on a Ksh10 million bond and a surety of Ksh5 million over the shooting incident.
