Biography

Smash Afrika (born October 31, 1988), formerly Afrika Similo Mdutyulwa, is a South African radio and television presenter. He is best known for co-hosting the music show Massive Music.

The television personality has appeared in many television shows and hosted his show, the early breakfast slot, at YFM.

Afrika was a co-host on En Route 6 and the show Point of Order.

Early Life

Afrika Similo Mdutyulwa was born on October 31, 1988, hails from Bloemfontein, and studied at the University of the Free State.

In 2011, he relocated to Johannesburg and worked on Voice of Wits.

After a year, he impressed many listeners and hosts like Tholi B, who recruited him. They worked together as hosts on YFM’s Afternoon Drivetime show.

Career

The television personality started with a campus radio and then made a name for himself at YFM.

Smash started as a host on En Route 6 alongside Tholi B. Later, he landed his show Point of Order and hosted it on weekdays from 03h00 to 06h00. 

At Yfm, he worked on many other shows like The Afternoon Drive with Tholi B and the weekend breakfast show Smash & Grab. He also landed a gig on Yfm’s reality show, Ground Zero.

Smash appeared as a Disk Jockey in one of the e.tv drama series Hustle’s episodes in 2016. He landed one of his biggest gigs as a host alongside Lalla Hirayama on Mzansi Magic Friday night music show Massive Music. 

With his continuous display of outstanding performance, he landed a new television role on E.tv’s Switch Your Space. He co-hosted the reality show Ground Zero.

Afrika appeared as a Disk Jockey on the eTV drama series Hustle in 2016. He hosted Live at Night on 5FM on weekdays from 7 PM to 10 PM in 2018.

Smash has captured the heart of radio listeners as a Radio Host. He is also an MC and has graced some events like;

Personal Life

Smash Afrika married Kefiloe Mdutyulwa in February 2020. His wife is the daughter of actress Rami Chuene.

According to Sunday World, Smash Afrika applied for a protection order against his wife. The couple has a child.

A source disclosed that his marriage started to crumble three months into their traditional wedding. 

Kefiloe allegedly smashed Smash Afrika’s sister’s car and his bedroom window. He was allegedly psychologically abusive towards Kefiloe.

The radio host is allegedly accused of calling Kefiloe a gold digger. He also claimed her family tricked him into marrying her. When Kefiloe was pregnant, she moved out of their matrimonial home to live with her mother.

Smash Afrika is also accused of cheating on his wife with Msaki. His wife reportedly found pictures of them kissing and a love letter from Msaki.

Business

Smash Afrika founded the African Urban Nights (A.U.N) to celebrate African food, art, music, and fashion in urban spaces. He is also a founding member of the start-up fashion brand October Thirty First.
