Shamila Batohi (born 1960/61) is a high profiled South African prosecutor and seasoned investigator. She serves as the national director of public prosecutions at the National Prosecuting Authority.

Education
Shamila Batohi attended Burnwood Secondary School in Clare Estate. She obtained a law degree at the University of Durban-Westville and an LLB at the University of Natal.
Career
Advocate Shamila started as a junior prosecutor in the Chatsworth Magistrate Court in 1986. With time, she became the Director of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal.
In 1995, Batohi was seconded to the Investigation Task Unit formed by Nelson Mandela. She served as the first regional head of the KwaZulu-Natal-based Directorate of Special Operations.
In 1997, she served as the deputy attorney-general.
Though she started in private practice, Shamila has worked as a prosecutor for many years. In 2000, she led the prosecution of Hansie Cronje at the King Commission of Inquiry.
In 2000, she became the director of public prosecutions for KwaZulu-Natal and left the position in 2009.
In 2009, she became a senior legal advisor to the prosecutor at the International Criminal Court until 2018.
President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed her as national director of public prosecutions, and she assumed office on February 1, 2019. She served as the director of public prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal.
The advocate was among the six deputy directors of public prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal. She has worked in private practice and the justice department for over 30 years.
Batohi has also carried out some high-profile investigations. The seasoned advocate was involved in prosecuting twenty-one accused in the R31-million SBV cash robbery.

Shamila Batohi is a proud mother of two children, Nikhil and Shaunik. Her husband, late Dr Raj Somaru, was a dentist. She lives in Westville, Durban, with her family.
