Biography

Professor Ncedile Saule is an award-wining South African-born writer, novelist, and academic. He has written many works in Xhosa – Unyana Womntu.

Saule has promoted the development of isiXhosa through his literary works. He is also a lecturer at a prestigious university in South Africa.

Early Life

Ncedile Saule was born in Fort Beaufort in the Amatole District of Eastern Cape, South Africa. He is from the Bhayi, Mvulane clan. 

Career

As a writer, the professor has written many works in Xhosa. One of his notable publications includes Unyana Womntu. The SABC adapted it for television in 1989.

Saule also wrote Umthetho KaMthetho and Inkululeko Isentabeni. His unique way of writing has gained him awards. He is a two-time winner of the Nguni category in the M-Net Literary Awards.

Professor Saule is a Xhosa lecturer at the University of South Africa from 1982 to 2013. Later, he joined Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. At Rhodes University, he is a Xhosa lecturer.
