Biography

Cassius Mailula (born June 12, 2001) is a South African footballer. He is a Mamelodi Sundowns academy graduate and plays as an attacking midfielder for the team.

Mailula joined the Sundowns academy in 2016.

Early Life

Cassius Mailula was born on June 12, 2001, and hails from Limpopo, South Africa. He fell in love with football at a very young age.

At ten, he decided to play as an attacking midfielder, a position he currently plays at Sundowns. He chose the wing because of his love to score goals and his hate for his team’s defeat. 

The former Bafana Bafana captain Teko Tsholofelo Modise inspired Cassius.

Career

In 2016, Cassius joined the Sundowns academy at the age of 15. His performance at the Nelson Mandela Youth Challenge in Soweto earned him impressed Sundowns’s scout. 

At the competition, Cassius was the Player of the Tournament and took home the Golden Boot in that tournament.

In September 2022, he played his first game for the senior team against Chippa United, which ended in a 1-0 victory. As a player, he looks up to Themba Zwane and wishes to play alongside him one day.
