Biography

Elias Gaspar Pelembe (born November 13, 1983), also addressed as Domingues, is a Mozambican footballer. He currently plays as a midfielder for Royal AM.

Aside from playing in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), he is among the squad of the Mozambique national football team.

Early Life

Domingues was born Elias Gaspar Pelembe on November 13, 1983, in Maputo, Mozambique. He has been playing since 2004, starting his international career with his country.

In 2007, he relocated to South Africa from Desportivo in Maputo.

Career

Elias Pelembe played for the Pretoria-based football club Supersport United. He was the most influential player after they won the 2007-08 season of the Premier Soccer League. He received votes as PSL Player of the Season.

In 2009, rumors had it that Elias was to move to a league in Europe and had impressed Tottenham Hotspur scouts. He has built himself a name in football on the club and national teams.

Mamelodi Sundowns bought him and received handsome pay. Bidvest Wits won the 2016-17 Premier Soccer League competition on May 17, 2017, after defeating Polokwane City 2-0. His team also beat his former team Mamelodi Sundowns.

His performance impressed Gavin Hunt, who says he played a commendable role in the game. The victory made him a PSL four-time winner.

Domingues won the league twice with Supersport United in the 2007-08 Premier Soccer League. He won another one with the same club in the 2008-09 season.

The 2013-14 Premier Soccer League ended with him and his teammates in Mamelodi Sundowns lifting the cup. 

Elias successfully finished a League and Cup double since Bidvest Wits won the MTN 8 title after winning Mamelodi Sundowns on October 1, 2016.

Domingues left after completing the 2019-20 season with Bidvest Wits. In February 2021, he moved to Polokwane City in a free-agent transfer.

Apart from playing for the South African Premier Soccer League, he is an influential member of his country’s national team. He has scored many goals for the Black Mambas.
