Early Life
Andile Gaelesiwe was born on September 13, 1973, in Soweto, a township of Johannesburg in Gauteng. Her father’s name is Philemon Mofokeng.
Growing up in the township of Soweto came with several bitter experiences like rape. She is a victim of rape as a child and her father is reportedly the perpetrator.
As an adult, she had not communicated with her father for a long time. She formed the organization Open Disclosure Foundation to help people who are victims of rape and other sexual assaults.
Education
Andile Gaelesiwe attended primary and secondary schools in the township of Soweto. In 2004, she joined the Johannesburg-based Youth radio station and underwent training to be a radio host.
Career
Andile Gaelesiwe began her journey in the industry in 2003. Since then, she has dropped much music and has worked with many prominent artists.
The singer signed with the prominent heavyweight record label – BMG records. Eventually, she joined the youth radio station YFM in the City of Johannesburg. She underwent a one-year training to be a radio host.
In 2001, she received a call while working at the Johannesburg-based Youth station from a woman. The woman wanted to attempt suicide because of the sexual abuse she experienced.
To encourage the woman, Andile spoke about her experience on a similar issue. She used her life story to help the woman and other listeners who are in the situation.
Later, Gaelesiwe anchored the docu-reality show Khumbul’ekhaya. She possessed most of the qualities to anchor the show. Her courage to communicate and experience family problems earned her the role.
Andile Gaelesiwe started a program for victims of rape and other sexual-related assaults – Open Disclosure.
In 2019, she hosted the local couple reality show titled Before I Do, a show that helps couples deal with relationship challenges.
