Zonke Mchunu (born October 12, 1993) is a South African model and actress. She is best known for playing Imani on the SABC2 soap opera Muvhango.

The starlet has also appeared in other television productions and adverts. She has become a household name for bringing the character Imani to life.

Early Life

Zonke Mchunu was born on October 12, 2022, in South Africa. She grew up in the rural area of Kwamaphumulo near Stanger in KwaZulu-Natal and relocated to Durban in 2010.


After matric, Zonke attended Berea Tech to study Civil Engineering. Due to financial constraints, she couldn’t finish. Later, she applied for financial aid at the Durban University of Technology.

Zonke enrolled to study Theatre and Drama at the Durban University of Technology. She dropped out and relocated to Johannesburg to pursue her acting career.

At that time, she got a job in the soap opera Muvhango. She was to either continue studying or take the role. She chose to act over her academics with plans to complete.

Personal Life

Her onscreen love life has people thinking of who her boyfriend is in real life. Zonke is cagey about her love life and has not told any publication about her partner.

Zonke Mchunu is a proud mother to five-year-old Elami Mchunu. She spends her free time with friends, cooking for family, and dancing. 


Her mother raised her and her siblings – four older sisters and a younger brother. Her father died when she was eleven years old. Her mother is a cleaner at Zonke’s former high school.


Zonke joined Muvhango in 2015 at a young age. The actress has also appeared in other television productions and adverts and landed minor acting roles on Uzalo.
