Biography

Fezeka Nkomonye-Bayeni (born August 29, 1981) is a prominent South African politician. She has contributed to the country’s politics by handling several notable positions.

In 2019, Fezeka became the MEC for Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture in the Eastern Cape.

Bayeni has also served as a member of the Provincial Legislature, Eastern Cape from 2009 to 2010. She returned to the position in 2014.

As a politician, she belongs to the ruling party – African National Congress (ANC). She also belongs to the South African Communist Party (SACP).

Early life

Fezeka Nkomonye-Bayeni was born on August 29, 1981. She grew up and studied in South Africa.

Education

Bayeni obtained a BA degree from the University of Durban-Westville. She is studying for a Master’s degree in Development Studies at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Career

Bayeni has served in many positions and worked as the Senior Operations Officer at the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality.

She became a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2009. She was the 37th Candidate on ANC Provincial Eastern Cape Election List in 2014. 

Fezeka was the youngest elected during the election. She served as MEC for the Eastern Cape Department of Provincial Planning and Treasury.

Following the election in 2019, she became the MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture. 

From April to May 2019, she was the 17th Candidate at ANC Provincial Eastern Cape.

After the 2014 election Nkomonye-Bayeni returned to the legislature. She was a member of several committees including;

Personal Life

Aside from politics, Nkomonye-Bayeni also participates in sports. She is a runner and has been a part of many marathons. During the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa, Fezeka tested positive for COVID 19 in late 2020.
