Biography
Buang Jones (born 1985) is a South African legal practitioner, attorney, mediator, and consultant. He served in the South African Human Rights Commission for eleven years.
The 37-year-old uses his legal knowledge and experience to defend the dignity of black people.

Early Life
Buang Jones was born in 1985 in Bloemfontein, the Free State, South Africa. He is from a humble beginning and grew up in a shack at Phelindaba in Bloemfontein.
The shack he lived in stood on invaded land with no services. In 1999, he relocated with his family to the RDP house. In 2000, he completed his high school education and matriculated.
Education
Buang Jones enrolled for an LLB degree at the University of North West. He relocated to the University of Johannesburg for his third year in 2003.
In 2004, the legal practitioner dropped out of school due to financial constraints. He enrolled at the University of South Africa to complete his studies.
In 2007, he graduated and later trained as a lawyer at the Legal Practice Council.
Career
In 2008, he began to practice as a candidate attorney at Legal Aid South Africa, Botshabelo, Bloemfontein. At first, they assigned him to a bail court in the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court.
Later, Buang joined the district court handling minor cases. Jones got admitted as an attorney in June 2009.
In December 2010, Buang started to work in the South Africa Human Rights Commission in Bloemfontein. He became known in Bloemfontein for defending the rights of the poor and marginalized.
The first high-profile case he handled was the open toilet scandal in Rammolutsi, Viljoenskroon, in 2011. Another case was securing a settlement for the family of the late teacher Andries Tatane.
Resignation
In December, Jones joined the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) as a legal officer. He continued to rise in the ranks because of his dedication and enthusiasm.
In August 2022, he resigned as SAHRC Gauteng’s head after over eleven years of service. His focus now is on his legal practice, consultancy work, and investments.
