CAPE TOWN – Alan Winde, the Premier of Western Cape, has announced that the province is ready to advance to Level 3 of lockdown.
This was made after the South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced the country will move to Level 3 on the 1st of June.
“You rely on those medical specialists who say this what you have to spend your money on and this is what you have to put in place and you must also rely on the other specialists.
“Even though it is the same specialists saying, we can’t only focus on COVID-19, we have TB patients, heart disease patients and they also need to be looked after so you have to find that balance and so definitely Level 3 is where we need to be going,” he said.
The Western Cape has recorded over 15 000 cases confirmed and has lost 330 patients to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To meet the requirements for beds, the city had to convert the Cape Town International Convention Centre into a field hospital.
