Celebrities in South Africa sure love to secure any gig that comes their way, especially now that jobs in the industry are few.
But now many doubt if they are qualified for the one they just received.
Many celebrities including Mohale Motaung, Penny Lebyane, Khaya Mthethwa, Somizi, and Pearl Modiadie, were hired on the Free Stem Lockdown Digital School, a digital learning platform.
The platform was established to help students with their studies during this lockdown period.
Professional teachers disagreed with the idea of hiring celebrities without qualification over them. They went further to slam the Department of Education on Twitter and poured out their opinions.
The #CelebritiesAreNotTeachers has received over 19,000 tweets from teachers and South Africans who are against the idea.
Tweeps mentioned that celebrities are not to be hired in the academic field as they don’t have any relevant teaching qualifications.
Some mentioned that the pass rate has been very low and still the government is hiring celebrities who do not have any experience in teaching.
