Early Life
Toks was born on December 30, 1969, in Senekal, Free State province, South Africa. He grew up and schooled in the Free State. While in school, Toks began to exhibit his talent and entered various competitions.
In 1986 and 1987, Van der Linde represented Eastern Free State at Craven Week tournaments. The competition is an annual rugby union tournament organized for Schoolboys in South Africa.
Education
Toks graduated from Hoërskool Paul Erasmus, Senekal and studied at the University of the Free State.
Career
Rugby
In 1992, Van der Linde made his provincial debut for Free State. He played for The Sharks, a representative team of the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union.
Toks played a hundred and thirty-three games after moving to Western Province. He made the first appearance of his test match for Springboks against Italy in November 1995. The match was held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Toks van der Linde toured with the Springboks to Wales, Argentina, and France in 1996. He played as a replacement appearing in four out of five test matches.
After five years, Toks had the next test match against France in Paris, now credited as his final test match. Toks appeared in eleven tour matches and scored two tries for the Springboks.
Post Rugby
Van der Linde has retired from playing rugby union and has picked up other lines of the profession. He is a rugby commentator and television show host.
Toks and Breyton Paulse and Janina Oberholzer started to present Toks & Tjops in 2011. The informal chat show is broadcast on the Afrikaans-language TV channel kykNET.
