Nomfundo Ngcobo (born 18 July 2000), fondly called Nomfundo Moh, is a South African singer-songwriter. She is best known for the 2021 hit song Lilizela, which received gold certification in South Africa.

The seasoned singer signed a record deal with Universal Music. In 2022, she dropped the album Amagama. It housed the track Phakade Lami, which topped the music charts. Her music is Afropop because the African sound inspires her.

Early Life

Nomfundo Ngcobo was born on July 18, 2000, in Ndwendwe, KwaZulu-Natal. She grew up in the town and started her music career in 2016.

Growing up, her family called her Nomfundo Moh, and she adopted the childhood nickname. She always loved music and started singing at the age of six. She began to perform at churches and school concerts.

Starting to sing in church laid the foundation for her, and she built from there. She then began to write her songs in 2016 in Grade 11. She started to produce covers in her bedroom until she got a hit song.

At first, her family did not approve of her entering the music industry because of the nature of the industry. They knew she had more opportunities outside music. But now, they are one of her biggest supporters.

Education

Nomfundo Ngcobo studied for a Bachelor of Social Work degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Graduation

Moh’s graduation ceremony was memorable. The hall filled with excitement as other graduates sang her song Soft Life when she walked to collect her degree. It was also playing on the speaker as she stepped on stage.

Later, the singer received a double-platinum plaque for her smash hit Phakade Lami. 

Career

Nomfundo Ngcobo started to work on her debut studio album in September 2020. She is signed to the record label Universal Music South Africa.

Her breakthrough followed the release of Lilizela as the album’s lead single in February 2021. She dropped the album’s second single, Umthwalo, in June 2021, and the third single, Phakade Lami, followed in October 2021.

The song featured Ami Faku and Sha Sha and debuted at number 1 on Metro FM Top 40 Charts. It made it to number 4 on Most Popular Radio Singles. It was also certified 4× platinum in South Africa.

Nomfundoh released her first studio album Amagama in January 2022. It peaked at number seven on the Spotify album charts. Apple Music featured her on the Africa Rising program in March 2022.

Spotify named her the Equal Africa Ambassador on 13 April. Moh appeared in the Shay’na nge White Star campaign in Johannesburg on 12 May and in Durban on 21 May.

The seasoned singer announced her upcoming second studio album Ugcobo in Match 2023. She released the lead single, Amalobolo featuring Big Zulu, on 10 March 2023.
