Biography

Lillian Dube (born September 30, 1945) is an award-winning South African actress. The veteran actress is best known for playing matriarch and matron Sister Bettina in the drama Soul City.

Many know the actress for playing Masebobe in the SABC1 soap opera Generations. She has been in the movie industry since the 1980s and has appeared in many films.

Early Life

Lillian Dube was born September 30, 1945, in South Africa. 

Career

Lillian Dube joined the movie industry in the 1980s and portrayed many characters. She has played comedic to other serious roles. Many know her for playing sister Bettina in the SABC1 drama series Soul City.

In 2011, the veteran actress starred as Koko K in the SABC1 sitcom My Perfect Family. She appeared in season two of the SABC3 drama series The Lab in 2008.

Dube handled the production and creation of the SABC2 sitcom Skwizas, where she starred as Mmane for five seasons. She was a cast member in the short film The Ring as Mme Motsatse.

Many television viewers are familiar with her role as Masibobe on the SABC1 soap opera Generations. She appeared in many movie productions in the eighties and nineties.

Lillian appeared in the films Mapantsula, Sweet ‘n Short, There’s a Zulu On My Stoep, and A Good Man in Africa.

Personal life

Lillian Dube dated Kenneth Mgqamqo, who is nine years younger than she is, but they lost contact and later reconnected.

In 2007, the veteran actress survived a battle with cancer, and in the following year, she was in remission. After many years, cancer returned in 2015.

The battle developed her interest in community development, and she is a cancer awareness activist. She raises awareness through Celebrities for Good Causes. Lillian also has a casting company based in Johannesburg, Lillian Dube Casting Agency.

Its primary objective is to nurture young talents and encourage people to pursue their dreams. She received a Lifetime Achiever Award from the Theatre Guild in 2014.

In 2009, the actress was the star character in the theatre production Curl Up and Dye, which toured Scotland and Germany.
