Thembi Mthembu (April 1970 – 14 April 2022) was a South African healthcare professional. She was the wife of the late Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu.

She succumbed to a short illness on April 14, 2022. South Africa is morning her death. People had good things to say about her. She was passionate about healthcare and touched many people and communities through her nursing profession.

Early Life

Thembi Mthembu was born in April 1970. The healthcare professional did disclose information about her parents. She passed away on 14 April 2022. She died in her birth month and reports had it that she would have celebrated her birthday.

Personal life

She was the wife of the late Jackson Mthembu. Jackson was a politician and passed away in the early months of 2021. He died from the Covid-19 complications. He was laid to rest in Emalahleni in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Jackson had married Pinkie Selolo but the union ended with a divorce in early 1990. The minister and his two wives had 6 children altogether.

In March 2019, Thembi lost her 25-year-old stepdaughter Nokhwezi Mthembu to suicide at the Pelican Park parliamentary home in Cape Town. Thembi’s biological daughters are Thuli and Nokuthula.


She worked as a professional nurse and was a member of the Democratic Nursing Organization of South Africa. She had worked with many clinics in Mpumalanga. She passed away while working at a medical facility based in Tswane.

Cause of Death

With a bitter heart, the family confirmed her death on Thursday 14 April 2022. She had been in the hospital to receive treatment. She succumbed to the illness at the hospital-based in Pretoria.

Reports covered that she had been ill for a while. Though the illness is yet to be disclosed to the general public. South Africans continued to pour in condolences.
