Rudzani Maphwanya (born on 23 November 1960) is a top-ranking South African army personal. He was the Chief of Joint Operations for two years, from 2019 to 2021.
His efforts and service to his country did not go unnoticed. He was promoted to the Lieutenant-General rank as commanding General Officer of the South African Army Infantry Formation.
The President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa appointed him as the Chief of the South African National Defence in April 2021. Rudzani will assume office on June 1, 2021.

Rudzani Maphwanya was born on 23 November 1960 in the northernmost province of Limpopo, South Africa. He had his primary and secondary school in South Africa.
His dreams to be a personnel in the South African military personally influenced his choice of study. He joined the military wing of the African National Congress Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK).
His career in the MK military spanned 16 years, from 1978 to 1994. Then he integrated into the South African National Defense Force in 1994.
Rudzani Maphwa attended the University of the North, now the University of Limpopo, and graduated with a B Com Degree in 1994.
The elite military personnel also bagged a Total Quality Management certificate from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 2003.
He graduated from the University of Pretoria (UP) after completing his strategic Management Programme in 2005. Later, he gained a more academic qualification at the University of Witwatersrand. He graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Security Management in 2012.
He is also a Masters of Management degree holder which he achieved in 2015 from Wits University.
The eminent military personnel has served his country through a few significant capacities. He has but in his best in his service to the Republic of South Africa both home and abroad.
He served in the MK in Angola and later in 1994, he joined the South African National Defense Force (SANDF). He has also held other eminent capacities like SO1 Operations and SSO Operations SF Bde.
He held the capacity of the Chief of Staff Special Forces Brigade for a short time, from 2003 to 2005.
Rudzani Maphwa became the General Officer Commanding the South African Special Forces in 2006. He served under this capacity for ten years until 2016.
He actively participated in the November 2019 situation of SANDF Chief Joint Operations. He made headlines on April 2021, after the president of the Republic of South Africa appointed him at the top of the SANDF.
On June 1, Rudzani superseded the previous top on the SANDF General Solly Shoke.
