Neo Makwa (born in 1991 in Katlehong) is an award-winning South African producer. He is the brain behind the production of the hits for several big names.
He has produced for AKA, DJ Fistas, JR, Touchline, Kwesta, and Bucie Nkomo.
He comes out bold to declare himself the best producer in South Africa. The “cocky” producer holds the belief that his hard work brought him to the position he is today.
Many address him by his producer name ” Makwa” and he boasts of over a decade and one year of experience in the game.

The self-acclaimed “best producer in the country” was born in 1991. Katlehong, East of Johannesburg is his place of birth and where he was raised. He began to produce music during his days in high school.
Though he hails from a township that records a high rate of crime, he wanted to “break the township child’s narrative of crime, drugs, and alchohol”.
After completing Grade 12, he furthered to gain more knowledge in academics at CTU Training Solution.
He studied Software Development at the institution but did not complete his studies.
He dropped out while he was in his first year of study to focus on what he is passionate about.
According to the producer, his studies frustrated him because it was not his first love.
Leaving school was the option so he could pursue his passion. However, he doesn’t advise people to be dropouts.
For the producer, doing music dates to his days in high school. He is the man behind the production of hit many songs for big names.
He produced hits on the AKA’s album titled Touch My Blood. He is also the producer behind the album Rebirth by Bucie Nkomo and other artists.
In 2013, he connected with Kwesta upon listening to his song Intwe Right feat. TLT.
His thirteen years in the music industry have gained him recognition.
In 2017, he was nominated for Best Producer at SAHHA. Gemini Major won the award, however, Makwa thinks he deserved the award.
In the year that followed, he received another nomination for Best Producer at 2018 SAHHA.
He is not impressed with how his recognition is going. He is the man behind several club bangers.
Though the Jo’burg born doesn’t beg for attention, he drives at the point “to give recognition where it’s due”.
