Nathi Mankayi (born Nkosinathi Mankayi; 23 December 1982 in Mthatha, Eastern Cape) is a South African singer, songwriter, and artist.
He revealed that his dreams of attending an art school were shattered following his involvement in an armed robbery in 2012.
His date of birth is on the 23rd of December 1982 and his place of birth is in Mthatha, a small town near the Mooi River in the Eastern Cape.
He grew up in Maclear, Eastern Cape. The name of his sister is Amanda Mankayi.
He says that he realized he would end up being a singer at the age of ten (10). “I grew up in a Christian family. We would sing before we pray every night.
“We took turns opening each prayer session with a song and that’s when my singing talent started,” he says.
He was born into a family of five (5) siblings and mother. His mother, Nothembile Mankayi, single-handedly raised them.
Nathi completed his education in Maclear and also picked up interest in drawing and music.

In 2011, he lost to his younger sister, Amanda, in the Dare to Dream competition. In 2012, he entered again and emerged the winner.
Apart from music, Nathi is a painter and sculptor. According to him, he managed to teach himself these skills. He further said he loves to create beautiful things using his hands.
Nathi’s hit song titled “Nomvula” received the Song of the Year title by Metro FM.

As a musician, he has received numerous awards including the South African Music Award for Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album 2016 for his album, “Buyelekhaya”.
The same year, he also received the South African Music Award for Male Artist of the Year 2016.
Still, in 2016, Nathi Mankayi was awarded the South African Music Award for Best Newcomer.
Seems the year 2016 was his lucky year as he had the Best Selling Full-Track Download for his song.
