Mondli Gungubele (born 1 February 1957) is a South African politician and leader of a trade union. He currently serves under the position of Minister in the Presidency.
He is a member of the ruling political party African National Congress (ANC). He is also a member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the ANC.
In 2010, Gungubele became the Mayor of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. He occupied the position and left a visible impact until 2016.
A few years later, in 2018, he became the Deputy Minister of Finance and served for a year. In 2019, he occupied the position of chairperson of the Social Development Committee until 2021.

The political heavyweight was born on 1 February 1957 and has occupied many positions.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Law degree and a National Diploma in Nursing. Mr. Mondli further ran other short programs for several certificates.
As an educator, he taught for a year at Falo Senior Secondary School, Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape (1980-1981). On Thursday, 5 August 2021, Mr. Mondli was appointed Minister in The Presidency.
In 1973, Gungubele became involved and active in worker struggles. He joined the National Union of Mineworkers as a member in 1982.
After an election in 1989, he became the Chairperson of the Congress of South African Trade Unions. He also became the Chairperson of the Vosloorus branch of the ANC in 1992.
He is the founding Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) East Rand Region.
He has also served as the Provincial Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng.
In 1994, Gungubele topped his memberships after joining the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL). He spent only three years and left in 1997.
In 1994, he began to serve as the Gauteng MEC for Social Development and Community Services. He occupied the position for three years and left in 1997.
He has also served in the health sector as Gauteng MEC for Health (1997-1999).
In 1999, Mr. Mondli was appointed as the Gauteng MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture until 2004.
He was the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Economic Affairs in the GPL (2004-2007).
The political juggernaut was deployed to Parliament as an African National Congress Member of Parliament in 2009. He served as the Whip of the Justice and Constitutional Development Portfolio Committee.
Until 2016, he remained the Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni spending half a decade in office.
He serves on the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC) since 2017.
In February 2018, he became the Deputy Minister of Finance and served until May 2019.
He has been described as a close aide to the current president of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa.
Mondli Gungubele is married to Rebecca Madipoane Gungubele. In 2014, IOL reported that she defended her IEC nomination.
