Mandla N. was born on 9 April and his parents named him Mandla Ngcongwane. He is formerly addressed by Mandla Ndimande. He registered in primary and secondary school in South Africa.

He attended and matriculated at De La Salle College in Victory Park. After graduating from college in 1999, Mandla enrolled at AFDA. In 2001, he completed his studies at AFDA.

Mandla N was married to a former member of the music band Tumi Masemola. Together, they are founding members of the production company Black Brain Pictures. They lived together as a couple for sixteen years.
After their divorce, he took his wife to court after filing an R2.2 million lawsuit against her. Mandla claimed that his wife wasn’t authorized to withdraw a total of R2.2 million.
Later in 2017, she made it open that she was no more a partner at Black Brain pictures. According to her, she had resigned.
