Maggie Benedict (born 10 February 1981 in Pretoria) is a South African actress. She has been making waves since 2011 when she played the role of Akhona Miya in Generations.

Though she left the SABC1 soap opera in 2014, she rose to prominence and grew her fanbase. Many viewers fell in love with her character on the soapie.

She maintained the standard and gained more love in other television appearances she has made so far. Maggie has grown into a household name in the South African entertainment industry.

She has graced the local screen for a long time and has recorded many accomplishments.

Maggie Benedict was born 10 February 1981 in Pretoria, South Africa. The actress’s parents are educated, her father is a medical doctor and her mother is a retired teacher. They contributed to providing her and her siblings, Nkoni and Abel, needs.


Maggie studied Musical Theatre at Pretoria Technikon, now the Tshwane University of Technology and graduated in 2002. She graduated from Michael Howard Studios, New York in 2007.


The popular actress landed a starring role as Akhona Miya in Generations. She appeared in the SABC1 soap opera for three years (2011-2014).

She has also landed many television appearances including in Snitch, Justice For All 3, and 7de Laan. As a presenter, she appeared in Lifestyle, a daytime show.

Alongside Renate Stuurman and Elma Postma, she played the starring role in The Mating Game, an SABC2 drama series.

For a year, she was cast in Binneland Sub Judice, now known as Binnelanders. Maggie played the role of Zoey Matsekwa in the M-Net/kykNET soap opera.

In 2011, she appeared first in Generations, an SABC1 soap opera, as Akhona Miya. After three years, in April 2014, the actress made her exit public announcing that she left the previous month. 

As a writer, she wrote 3 episodes of Ashes to Ashes (2016). She is a co-executive producer and writer of Step Up to a Start Up (2014), she wrote 2 episodes.

She was the unit production manager in the drama Jay Mancini.


She was arrested in 2013 for allegedly stealing pain medication from a store at Cresta Mall in Randburg, Johannesburg.

She made an appearance in Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 19 December 2013.

The court released her with a warning. The actress was alleged to have stolen a small 125g packet of Panados. Though, reports covered that she was to appear again in court in January.

Though how she was caught in possession of the stolen item is unclear.

Maggie was detained at the mall until the arrival of the police. She was escorted to Linden police station and the store managers opened a case of theft.
