Kwagga Smith was born on 11 June 1993 in the town Lydenburg in Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, South Africa. At birth, his parents, Marie and Willie Smith, named him Albertus Stephanus Smith.

He was part of the country’s Seven teams that took home a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Kwagga Smith was also in the team that bagged the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

He has his education at Hoer Tegniese Skool Middelburg. While in school, Kwagga played rugby for HTS Middelburg. He made it to the Pumas Under-18 squad that played at the Craven competition (2010 and 2011).
