Geoff Makhubo is the new mayor of Johannesburg, he was his vote on Wednesday. He was born in Soweto and belongs to the party, African National Congress (ANC).
He won the mayoral election after he received 137 of the votes cast. The post was formerly held by Herman Mashaba of the DA.
His closest opponent was Funzela Ngobeni, who belongs to the Democratic Alliance (DA) after receiving 101 votes, followed by the EFF’s Musa Novela who received 30 votes.
He has been elected to replace the outgoing mayor, Herman Mashaba.
He had his education at Wits University, where he had his BComm degree. Mayor Geoff also has many Advanced Management courses under his belt.
Geoff Makhubo is 51 years old (2019). He was born in Soweto.
He served as the party’s regional chairperson in 2018.
Makhubo was summoned to the ANC’s Integrity Committee to respond to allegations claims.
It claimed that he scored a hefty R30-million middle-man fee for an underhanded deal between the City of Johannesburg and Gupta-linked Regiments Fund Managers.
He was the Regional Treasurer. According to Joildee Matongo, the ANC Joburg spokesperson, the remaining results of the top position will be announced later.
“The position of the Chairperson of the ANC in Johannesburg has been concluded, with the election of comrade Geoffrey Makhubo as the chairperson of the ANC – who was elected unopposed.
“The rest of the top positions were voted for by the delegates up to this [Sunday] morning. The results of these elections will then be announced this morning.”
