David Makhura (born on 22 February 1968 in Soutpansberg District of Limpopo Province) is a South African politician. He serves as the 6th Premier of Gauteng after the 2014 election.
He also serves under the position of Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. David is a member of the African National Congress.

From 1984 until 2004, he was active in student and youth politics. He was a leader at several positions like the President of the SRC at Turfloop University (1990, 1992).
He was also the National President of the South African Student Congress from 1994 until 1996.
He served as the ANC Youth Leader Executive committee member from 1998 until 2004.
David was recruited to the ANC in 1986 and to SACP in 1987. He occupied the position of the National Education Secretary and later the Deputy General Secretary of the National Education Health & Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU).
From 1997 and 2001, David served as the National Education Secretary. With time he became the Deputy General Secretary of the National Education Health & Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU).
David was a member of COSATU’s Central Executive Committee. He also served in the Political Commission and Education Committee of the trade union federation.
He served as the ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary and member of the PEC. He also is an ex-official member of the National Executive Committee.
He served in numerous sub-committees of the ANC National Executive Committee.
David was the First Convener of the South African Communist Party National Youth Desk.
David holds a Master of Science, Public Policy, and Management he obtained from the University of London.
He is currently studying towards a Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) in Futures Studies (energy futures). The studies are ongoing at the University of Stellenbosch.
From 2014 to date he is serving as the Premier of Gauteng. David is also a chairperson of Mega Circle (Pty) Ltd.
He served as the Provincial Secretary, African National Congress from 2001 until 2004.
He was a Member of the National Executive Committee, African National Congress Youth League. He occupied this position from 1998 to 2004.
For four years, he Deputy General Secretary of National Health and Allied Workers’ Union from 1997 to 2001.
He also served as the National Education Secretary of National Health and Allied Workers’ Union from 1997 to 2001.
For ten years, he was a Member of Central Executive Committee, Congress of South African Trade Unions from 1997 to 2007.
He was also a Member of Political Commission and Education Committee, Congress of South African Trade Unions from 1997 to 2007 for ten years.
David served under the position of National President of South African Student Congress from 1994 to 1996.
For two years, from 1990 until 1992, he was the President of the Student Representative Council, Turfloop University.
During this time he also served as the Chairman of Bantu Investment Holdings and Ex-Officio Member of National Executive Committee
