Chichi Maponya is a South African born businesswoman. She is the eldest daughter of the late Richard Maponya and the Director of the Maponya Group of Companies.
She is the founder of a mineral and energy investment company, Mathari Resources. It is majorly women-owned and is focused on mining, procurement, and trading.
Chichi studied at the University of Natal and graduated with a BCom degree. She then began her career in the family business and worked for a property development company.
Later, she joined the South African Institute of Civil Engineers (SAICE).
She won the title of the Business Woman of The Year in 2008/09 and was nominated for the Johnnie Walker Celebrating Strides Entrepreneurship Category.
Chichi received a nomination for the Olay Iconic Woman Awards 2009.
She is the daughter of late Richard Maponya, who was a South African entrepreneur and property developer. He died on 6 January 2020.
Chichi’s mother, Marina Nompinti, worked as the director of Barclays West Bank Limited.
She was also the director of Putco Transport Company and was involved in social development. She died on 5 June 1992.
Chichi joined Black Like Me Products, cosmetic manufacturers in the country. She later established a communication company. Her clients include Coca Cola and MTN.
She serves on several boards including Kwezi BoE Asset Management, Intertoll Africa, Sitech Systems and Kwezi V3.
Chichi is the trustee of the marina Maponya Memorial Fund and Mall Property Trust. She is the Director, Tennis SA, Deputy Chairman, Brand SA and Chairman, Opera Africa.
