André Schwartz (born in Johannesburg) is a South African singer and actor. He is famous for his starring role as Strauss du Preez in Sterlopers, the kykNET musical youth drama series.
Andre made his first television appearance when he was 14 years old. He shared his experience saying that;
“Feeling the excitement of the cameras, the lights and realizing the immensity of the audience turned me into a ‘performance junkie’. At that moment I realized that no other career would suffice.”
He has performed many shows on TV with musical content. He has hosted his game show and boasts six solo TV.
Andre also made an appearance on the MNET soapie titled “Egoli” as himself. He also documents the Cooking habits of South Africa’s most prominent celebrities at “Make A Meal Of It” on MNET.
He featured as a DJ on “Punt Gesels radio”.
He studied law at the university and during his school days, he realized that singing will always be what he loves the most.
His stage performances are energetic as he claims the stage, and sing with a mouth wide open.
He has released many hit songs including Love Everything Here, Rhythm Through The Night, and I Never Want To See You Again.
The singer publicly announced he was suffering from a disease called motor neuron disease in February 2019.
The singer shared he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. Joost van der Westhuizen, a former South African rugby player, suffered the same illness.
According to Channel 24, the singer was diagnosed in April 2018 after he experienced some symptoms. A friend of his, who was a doctor, advised encouraged him to visit a specialist.
During the time he was diagnosed, Andre was starring in a theatre production of The Sound of Music as Captain von.
