Andre Marinus De Ruyter (Born in Pretoria) is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director at Nampak Ltd. He was the Managing Director at Sasol Olefins and Surfactants Pty Ltd.
He also occupied the position of Senior Group Executive-Global Chemicals at Sasol Ltd.
He obtained a graduate degree and an undergraduate degree from the University of Pretoria. Mr. De Ruyter also received a graduate degree from the University of South Africa.
He also obtained an MBA from Nyenrode Business Universiteit.
Pravin Gordhan, Public Enterprises Minister on Monday announced that Andre de Ruyter had been appointed as the new CEO of Eskom.
According to the minister, De Ruyter would resume duties on the 15th of January 2020, at a salary below that of the current compensation package.
Before his appointment, he has spent over 20 years with the energy and chemical group in many senior management roles. According to thenation.co.za, he occupies the position of CEO at JSE-listed packaging group Nampak.
De Ruyter’s qualifications include LLB and MBA. In 2011, he surmounted to replace Pat Davies as Chief Executive Officer at Sasol, which instead selected David Constable.
“I would like to thank Mr. De Ruyter for not only accepting this position at a difficult time for Eskom but, given Eskom’s current financial situation, also agreeing to a lower compensation package than the position currently pays,” Gordhan said.
“I am confident that he, De Ruyter, will lead a committed and capable management team that will work with him and the board to take Eskom forward.”
According to in.reuters.com, De Ruyter receives total annual compensation of R16,421,000 and R123,380 for all other compensation.
